Gaze-Image and Primal Scene

During meditation such image-gazes can emerge, and be disturbing. But were we to return to the 'main star' as a single vector of the SHINES, and would it be simultaneously possible to maintain attention (the same effect of the Master´s 'gaze-image' or darshan),

then we would penetrate the image-gazes as well. However, here is where many Western devotees often fail, namely in stopping at this simple primary meditative exercise, at the 'light', the 'gaze- image' of the master within. This was not difficult for Indians, who are constantly concerned with their 'god of small things' anyway.1

This figure depicts various aspects of attention in alternate states of concentration, of the image-gazes and the 'gaze-image' (from conscious to sub-conscious states), and which I textually describe with the slash or fractional stroke. On the left-hand side you find the SHINES of primal repression.

The concern here is attention as such, and which is mainly extraverted, but also slightly introverted. Only Freud considered it to be exclusively extraverted, and related it to the 'reality principle'. At the top is found Freud's so-called 'analytic's floating attention' which is equally extraverted as it is introverted (the analytic must hear what the patient is saying and simultaneously experience his own reaction).

Here the patient or the yoga-practitioner could find the image-gazes.2 At the right-hand side is introverted attention in dreams. It also represents the SPEAKS of primal transference. Freud says: "...we are spoken at the 'navel' of dreams..." by transferring all interpretations to the navel, whereby they concentrate there as if there could be found,a deep 'gaze-image', for example the gaze in something like the primal-scene.

1 In her book, 'The God of Small Things', the well-known author A. Roy describes life in Kerala in a very illustrative way. In Kerala there is no need for a 'God for common people', or a social evangelist. She describes people who have so little, but are feel happy with that. They can perceive a bright SHINES in the smallest of things.

2 In psychoanalysis the analyst could here find sometimes with the help of his countertransference the image-gaze the patient is experiencing that moment.
