Author's Biography
Dr. Günter von Hummel was born as a descendent of an ancient Austrian-German family (see the coat of armour of the noble Hummel, Edle von Hassenfels below).
He completed Humanistic Grammar School, then studied human medicine in Munich, Germany and was awarded his doctor's degree in 1968 on an experimental study concerning thymidin-marked auto-radiographics in the stomach. Subsequently, he was occupied in various hospitals and university clinics (in cardiology, neurology and psychiatry in Cologne and Munich) as an assistant doctor for six years. In 1974 he established his own practise as a specialist for General Medicine in Munich. He completed post graduate education in psychoanalysis in 1980 while continuing his professional practice.
Dr. von Hummel first met Kirpal Singh during a journey to India in 1970, when he began his education in Kirpal Singh’s Surat Shabd Yoga. He has published several articles in professional journals and also published his first book: HERZ Sprache (HEART Language) concerning the psychosomatic medicine of heart diseases in 1992. Many publications have since followed, of which you will find descriptions on this website.
This first book included the initial introduction of his new psychotherapeutic method, which is derived in theory from psychoanalysis, but in practise is closely related to meditative methods, or to yoga. Further books concerning these topics followed: ‘Signifikant Gott?’, ‘Liebesschule’, ‘Meditation / Wissenschaft’ and ‘Yoga und Psychoanalyse’. In the 90’s Dr. von Hummel conducted a multi-year seminar on ‘Analytic Psychocatharsis’. Dr. von Hummel is married, has three children and several grandchildren. This illustration represents the coat of armour chosen by Dr. von Hummel's ancestor after being awarded the status of a noble by Kaiser Franz Josef I (Emperor of Austria).
